If you’re not familiar with Abbotsford BC, Canada, then you might think it’s a smaller city. Well over 100,000 people call Abbotsford home. Knowing a little about Canada, you might think that you already know what type of climate you can expect while visiting or living there. However, there might be a few surprises, and one of them would be that the climate is actually considered to be warm and temperate. Can you believe that?
You might have guessed correctly that you’ll experience plenty of rain while there. Where I live, July may be part of summertime, but it’s also part of the hurricane season. In Abbotsford, however, July would be the month it rains the least on average. While Abbotsford does have a warm climate, that doesn’t mean summers with temperatures close to 35 degrees. In fact, that’s nowhere near close.
Yes, the winter months bring freezing temperatures here and there, but that’s a good thing when you’re used to a climate with no winter season like I am. If you’re wondering about the coldest month, that would be January, which is quite typical of any climate in North America. Of course, you also have your warmest month. Would you guess it’s July? It’s actually August believe it or not.
While you get all four seasons in Abbotsford BC, it’s very interesting to note that the temperatures don’t fluctuate as much as some other climates. While August is the hottest month, the hottest recorded temperature in Abbotsford was actually in July one year when the temperature was over 100 degrees, just barely.
It was mentioned that you can expect plenty of rain annually, but can you guess how many inches? On average, the city gets about 60 inches of rain each year. The humidity most months is on average in the 50’s, with a few of the winter months seeing an average humidity in the 70’s. That actually surprised me, does it surprise you also?
If you’re going to have a winter, you’re going to want to know if there is snow involved. Relax, you can expect 12 snow days a year on average, which sounds great to me. So if outdoor hockey is your sport, maybe you should find an indoor activity like dance to keep you busy. Another interesting fact about the climate in Abbotsford involves looking at the record low temperatures. Would you have thought that the record low temperatures for the summer months were in the 30’s? That’s cold, but remember, on average, you can expect a warm and temperate climate.
