Should Free Daycare Be Provided To Families By The Government?
People are talking quite a lot about childcare these days and how something needs to be done for parents. Usually, you hear more about cheaper childcare and not free childcare, but free childcare thanks to the government is one theory. Of course, when it comes to debating that issue, you’re not going to hear the Republicans cheering that notion on at all. Government involvement on issues like that is usually left up to the Democrats.
However, you’re urged to think in a nonpartisan way for a moment. This is about children, and it’s about families making ends meet. Even the Republicans have been talking about different ways to help make childcare more affordable. It’s something that in this day and age would help working parents. I used to run an after school program, and the city didn’t charge parents much money at all to have parents enroll their children in the program.
The program would help working parents finish up their work days and then pick up their kids hours after school had let out. They would still have time with their children before the day ended, but they would also be able to get their work done and provide for their families. While the program wasn’t free, it was certainly more affordable than some other alternatives.
There is a big push towards more affordable or free childcare, from all angles. One way to get the job done would be for the government to step in to come up with a free childcare program for working parents. Do you think this should be the solution?
Personally, I don’t think it should be the solution because the government is always coming up with new ways to spend money and put the country further into debt. There has to be another way. You would think that somehow businesses could start picking up the tab. However, if there were tax breaks for big businesses, then that means the government would still be picking up the tab.
Maybe other government programs need to be reworked first in order to free up the tax credits for big businesses. Either way, it’s quite evident that daycare centers are on the minds of many parents these days as they need more affordable childcare. You can look at it from a governmental standpoint, or you can think of more creative solutions. Either way, something needs to be done for working families.
