Curriculum
A fine arts based curriculum where children can express themselves in various ways
Xplor Fine Arts Preschool operates in the Xtreme Talent Dance Company’s studio offering a unique, large and inviting space for young children to explore, experience and enjoy learning.
Our Abbotsford Preschool program offers the following:
We offer a fine arts preschool program for children aged 2 1/2 to 5 years old. Our classes have space for a maximum of 10 children per class and are instructed by two teachers providing plenty of individual time and instruction for each child.
“Xplor Fine Arts Preschool is one of the best schools in town. Linda and her assistant Kelsey are so much fun and my daughter loves them both! So much attention to detail is put into every lesson. She loves the interactive story time with Miss Linda and discusses these stories for days afterwards. Ballet on Tuesdays and acro on Thursdays you can’t get that anywhere else. Hands down the best preschool in town. Great staff, great facility and an opportunity to perform and learn all aspects of the arts.”
“Ms. Linda and Ms. Kelsey have been my daughters preschool teachers since February 2014. My daughter was immediately drawn to them upon our trial visit to the preschool. They are warm and engaging with the kids. My daughter looks forward to preschool each week. They have helped my daughter open up and become more social. We look forward to having her in preschool again next year!”
“I would highly recommend this preschool to anyone who appreciates a play-based curriculum with teachers who really care and who are extremely creative in their thoughts and how they teach the children. The children learn by doing.
I see my child thriving socially and gaining confidence with each visit thanks to devoted teachers that really understand what it takes to turn toddlers into bright, curious, caring young children ready to face the challenges of elementary school.
Thank you for being amazing!”

The children will be constantly supervised throughout the class. The toys, equipment, and play areas will be kept in good repair. Good hygiene, adult attention and safe practices will be provided. Parents will be notified of any health problems or injuries of the children. The parents and/or an ambulance will be called if a child is suddenly ill or seriously injured. Injury, fire and emergencies will be handled as safely and quickly as possible. All adults working in the preschool will have a criminal record check. Parents will be notified beforehand of whom and when, except in an emergency, a substitute will care for the children. Only those people on the child’s ‘pick-up list’ will be allowed to pick-up the child from the preschool. Identification will be required for those who haven’t picked up the child before or who staff have not met but who are on the pick-up list. Children will have access to adequate food and water while at preschool.
Parents need to let the preschool know each day if your child will not be attending. Notify preschool of any major changes in home life, which may affect child’s behaviour or attitudes. Please update address changes and/or phone number changes. Provide the preschool of your child’s immunization status or a letter stating that your child is not immunized in which case the child may need to be excluded from the preschool during an outbreak of a communicable disease. Snack for the morning class should be nutritious for sharing. All items will be placed on snack table and children will choose what they would like to eat water will be provided.
Payment is due on the 1st of each month.
Each child will need a backpack or bag to bring each day. Please have in that bag a complete change of clothes, a pair of clean slip on or Velcro shoes or hard soled slippers, to be worn indoors, and a healthy snack to share with class. As children’s work is their play, dress children in ‘play’ clothes or at least clothing that is okay to get paint, glue etc. on. Please leave all toys, stuffed animals etc. at home as they often cause challenging behaviour among the children. We will have special days to bring special items to show our friends.
Parents need to keep children at home for the following conditions:
It is required to keep [or take] a child home when the child is either suffering from one or more of these symptoms, or is not well enough to take part in the regular program of the facility. Ultimately the care of the child is the responsibility of the parent. It is required that children be free from symptoms or have a doctor’s or medical health officer’s approval before returning to the preschool , providing the child can participate in the regular program. Parents are required to inform the preschool within 24 hours of any serious illness or communicable disease within their family. This is necessary so that all families within the preschool can be advised to watch for symptoms of the illness. Should a child become ill while at the preschool the child will be comforted and be allowed to lie down in an area away from the other children. Separation is required in order to prevent the spread of illness. Parents of the ill child will be contacted and will be required to arrange for the child to be picked up. If a child becomes critically ill or injured parents and/or an ambulance will be called. All expenses incurred should an ambulance be called will be the responsibility of the parents. A permission to administer form must be filled out in order for any medication to be given to a child at the preschool. Medication must be in the original container. Medications will be kept in a locked container in the preschool. It is required, by law, that any type of abuse suspected or disclosed be reported to the Ministry of Social Services. Parents with any concerns about abuse in preschool can contact and file a report with any health unit in the area.
On your first day of preschool please be prepared to spend a little longer to drop off your child (10 – 15 minutes at least). Please bring all required items. Refer to the -What Your Child Requires section. Please have your prepayment as it is required by this day. Please bring your child into the preschool coat room and stay until shoes and coats are hung up. Parents are required to sign child in and out daily. Parents are responsible to relay all messages to Linda. Children will only be released to an authorized person – those listed on the child’s registration form. Please keep this list up to date. Persons who I have not met before will be required to show identification. Should ANYONE come to pick up a child who appears to be incapable of providing safe care for the child i.e. those appearing to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, the following procedure will become effective
If anyone comes to pick up a child who appears to be unsafe to transport or care for the child and if they refuse an offer to phone an alternate person and they leave with the child the police will be notified.
There are only three reasons that a parent will be denied access to their child:
Access cannot be denied to any parent for any reason other than those listed above. If an order is in place staff will call custodial parent and police, if necessary. Xplor Fine Arts Preschool has an open door policy. Parents may enter the preschool at anytime during regular preschool hours. Please feel free to discuss your child’s progress, concerns and daily routine at any time. I am also available by phone outside of preschool hours including weekends. Parents can also set up an appointment for a private interview.
Children will be taught all the limits and the reasons for them. Limits will be stated in a positive straightforward manner. Expected behavior will be stated in a clear and concise manner. Children will be reminded of them often. When possible, appropriate choices will be provided for children to help prevent power struggles. Children’s feelings will be acknowledged when being reminded of limits. Redirecting children’s attention will also be used as a way of preventing potential conflict. Children will be assisted in identifying and solving problems with verbal guidance and problem solving modeling. When children have difficulties remembering limits for a specific piece of equipment or area, off limits will be used. Children will be taught to ‘take a break’- to take some time away from a particular environment to assist them in getting emotions under control. Children will be offered to go to another area of the center to “take a break” from the area they were in eg. If a child really wants what another child is playing with and cannot wait for a turn and is trying to take toy away from the other child constantly the child will be offered to read a book or do a puzzle while waiting for a turn. If a child is physically harming his/herself in what appears to be uncontrolled emotions the caregiver will offer comfort by holding the child on her lap if the child is willing. In my experience often a child just needs the offer of physical support to allow his/herself to calm down. Children will not be subjected to;
Parents will be notified of child’s behaviour through daily conversations with caregiver. Areas of concern will be recorded as needed as a reminder to have discussion with a parent regarding their child’s behaviour and/or disciplines used and/or to be used at home and at preschool.
Your child/ren will be taught what to do in case a fire or an earthquake occurs while the child/ren are in preschool. They will be taught and will practice what they can do to keep themselves safe and where to go in case of evacuation. If an emergency occurs in which the building must be immediately evacuated children will be taken, on foot, to the East MCC Thrift Shop located at 33933 South Fraser Way. A cell phone, emergency forms and comfort kits will be brought as well. In case of natural disaster affecting the community, in which case parents may be delayed in picking up their child, an emergency 72 hour pack will also be transported to the evacuation site if necessary. In case of emergency and local phone lines are down a contact in Kamloops will be notified of the location and status of the preschool class and parents may phone him for this information. Out Of Area Contact: Alden home phone 1-778-469-3342 Alden’s cell phone 1-250-819-0894 Although a 72 hour pack is kept for each child parents are encouraged to pick-up their child promptly should an emergency occur.
Field trips can add such a real and tangible experience for children and since this is how children retain information best several will be planned throughout the year. Oftn these experiences standout in a child’s mind as being very memorable.
Field trips will require parents, or someone a parent appoints, to drive and accompany child to and from and supervise the child at field trip location. Field trips may have additional costs notification of these costs and times and location of field trips will be announced with plenty of time for arrangements to be made so that all children may attend.
