Competitive Dance Program

Introduction

Our Abbotsford Competitive Dance Program is among the largest in the Fraser Valley and features some of Xtreme Talent’s best dancers! From our Snow Leopards all the way up to our Panthers and now our Wildcats Competition Team (New for 2019/20!), each age group and skill level have their own squad.

Each year we hold auditions and dancers are placed in the competitive group that our instructors feel is the best fit for their skill and commitment level. Whether its on our Competition Team or one of our Company Teams, every dancer that wants to compete will have a spot somewhere at Xtreme Talent. Company Dance

Our Company Teams are our most competitive as they compete in an average of 4-5 competitions per year. Company dancers must be committed to being their very best both in and out of the dance studio, as they are often looked up to by the younger and more recreational dancers. To be on an Xtreme Talent Company Team dancers are required to take between 1-3 hours of Ballet each week at a minimum, depending on their age, and they are also required to take RAD Ballet exams each year too. In addition to Ballet, Company dancers are also required to take technique classes, and they also have specific company choreography classes each week that are also required. The Company teams will sometimes travel to competitions outside of the Lower Mainland to places such as Whistler, Washington State, New York and California to name a few. Company Dancing should be the ultimate goal for any student who wants to compete at the highest level, and train their absolute hardest, and have the absolute most fun! Wildcats Competition Team

The Competition Team is for our students who want to compete but can’t commit to the full company schedule and required classes. The competition team is a great fit for the students who are either just starting out in competitive dance because they can compete in 2 local competitions and they don’t have to commit to RAD Ballet or Technique classes. The only requirement for our Competition Teams is that you dance at least 2 separate days a week, and take at least one Competition Team class. That class can be Jazz, Lyrical, Acro, or Hip-Hop, and then it is recommended that students take at least one other Technique class to support, but it is not required. If you are in Recreational Dance currently and are looking to get more serious about it, but don’t think you can commit to the Company requirements then the Wildcats Competitive Team is the perfect fit!

Intensive Training

New for the 2018/19 season, our Intensive Training Program (I.T.P) allows our most elite and serious dancers to further their training even more with specialized classes and guest choreographers. These dancers can start their training at 3pm each day with classes such as Conditioning, Tricks and Flips, Advanced Ballet and more. We offer an additional 5 hours per week of specialized training to the select few that get chosen to be in the ITP program, which brings their weekly average of hours to around 20. That is why this program is only for dancers that are serious about getting the maximum amount of training and exposure in the dance community and are willing to put in the time and training to do so.
